Dangerous Positions

Working bent over is dangerous for the spine.

You will learn how mechanical advantage for both proper and improper posture is poor when working against a posterior force, either bent over or upright You will learn this should be avoided.

You will see the poor mechanical advantage of a person working bent over with either proper posture or improper posture with an upper body weight of 100 lbs.

Proper posture resisting a posterior force (upper body weight of 100 lbs.)

Improper posture resisting a posterior force (upper body weight of 100 lbs.)

Total force of effort:  1,733 lbs.

Total forces created: 2,330 lbs.

Total number of parts used:  30

Total force of effort:  1,756 lbs.

Total forces created: 2,503 lbs.

Total number of parts used:  30

You will learn that these values were found by the addition of mechanical advantage mathematically determined by lever system analysis from the T12-L1 joint through L5-Sacrum.
